Month: February 2013

Hello, stranger.

I’m so sorry I haven’t written for a while. Please forgive me. I have cake. And beer. Want some? OK, now are we friends again? GREAT!

I’ll blame it on Christmas and New Year and work etc. Or, would you believe that I’m part of a religion that doesn’t allow you to write anything in January? No? Dang.

So I’ve been keeping an eye on things lately, and I fear I don’t have a heap of stuff to write about – nothing’s really caught my eye yet this year. One thing that I have noticed about myself (I know, self-analysis and I’m not even in therapy! Anymore.) is that I have recently bought a LOT of shoes with heels or platforms at least three inches high. And you know those days when you get up and it’s an effort even to shower, let around rock a pair of stilts? Well, I’ve been checking out some less lofty options for those days.

Today, Solestruck put up some men’s shoes (which are always good to look at for larger-footed women), and I saw these cute cloud shoes that I would love to wear with some blue jeans and an oversized shirt. You know how you can be in the middle of the city, and everyone’s walking around in their grey businesswear, staring at the ground? Now, when they spot your feet, it’ll be like they’re lost in the clouds. Lovely!

These are by Study, and they’re called ‘Cloud Drop Blue’. You can get them for $95 – bargain!!

Also, Nordstrom have some new boots that I’m considering, which are available in a couple of interesting colours – kind of dusty faun or navy, neither of which I have in my shoe wardrobe yet. They come in a US 13, which is about an EU 44, as far as I can tell, or an AU 12, and the price isn’t bad – $132. The heel is a great height, there’s an easy access zip on the inside, and the boots are so simple that they could be pencil-skirt classy or dirty-jeans rough.

I also looked at a few pairs of ballet flats, and it kills me to say it because most large flats are some form of ballet, but I’m not a huge fan of the style. So I found this fairly new pair at Barefoot Tess that I think is a bit different with the ankle strap (although, beware leg truncation), leopard print and patent. These run up to a US 14 and are $115 from Barefoot Tess, but don’t forget the shipping which will take them to somewhere around $150.

Another pair on Barefoot Tess is the Steve Madden Mad Love ‘Flume’ in houndstooth, and they’re only $54. It’s funny, I really dislike this style in all the other colours, but I think the houndstooth and the cute pink sole give this particular shoe a quirky appeal. These go up to a US 14.

The last ones I’ll list from BFT are these Jeffrey Campbell ‘Kelley’ Oxfords that have been up on the site for AGES, and every time I look at their flats I consider these, but something has stopped me. And although I think oxfords have kind of been done a LOT, I also think that JC is rad and these are particularly unique, so… food for thought. $129, up to a 14.

So there you go. A few findings from the past month or so. I’m still on the case, and I have a couple of pairs of shoes arriving soon that I’ll be reviewing for you as soon as I get them.

I wish my full-time job could be professional large-shoe-shopper-extraordinaire. But unfortunately, mama’s gotta work to pay for her shoe (and beer, whisky and dumpling) habit.

Say hi if you feel like it! I like to make new friends.
